AGM 2017: Change of guard at CICC

On 4 December club members met at the Comedia Theater Köln to review an eventful year and to ring in some changes in the club admin. Both chairman Paul and treasurer Denise had decided to step down, meaning that a completely new ‘Vorstand’ was voted in, which now looks like this: Chairwoman: Suzy McAnanama-Brereton Vice…

AGM/JHV 2016

The 2016 AGM took place a little later than planned on 29 January 2017, in the rather splendid setting of the Comedia Theater attic room.  The busy 2-hour session included reports on the successful women’s and men’s seasons, a prize-giving ceremony, elections for the committee posts, and discussions on the forthcoming 2017 season. The main…

CICC men finish 3rd in Regionalliga

The men’s team recorded what must be their most successful season in club history. In the Regionalliga they won 6 out of 9 matches to finish 3rd overall out of 14 starting teams, accumulating the highest number of runs in the process. In the T20 Pokal we also made the quarter-finals against Blackcaps, the result of…

CICC men canter to T20 victory over Challengers

Chorweiler, Saturday 6th August.  “Nine-thirty sharp at the ground, team!” – a bright and early start requested by captain Tushar, keen to make amends for the last-gasp defeat to arch-rivals Challengers in the 50-over fixture back in May. But a bad start: CICC lost the toss in what appeared to be good batting conditions, which Challengers’ openers…

Annual General Meeting 2015

The 2015 CICC AGM (Jahreshauptversammlung) was held on November 22nd at our traditional meeting place for official business, Barney Valleys Pub in the Cologne Altstadt. As always, many thanks to Charlie for his hospitality! Ten members took part to review the sporting highlights and other happenings in what was an eventful year for the club.

After parting ways with ASV e.V. at the end of 2014, CICC finally became an independent eingetragener Verein (e.V.) in March, registered at the Amtsgericht Cologne. We now have our own by-laws and are in full control of our finances, at least according to treasurer Denise, who assured us that the sum at the bottom of the balance sheet ist still preceded by a plus sign.

There followed a hectic couple of months in which we set up a new summer training base at the idyllic TPSK sports park in Bocklemünd, registered all members for the DCB leagues, secured a new agreement with the other Cologne clubs for the use of the Chorweiler cricket ground, got ourselves officially registered with the StadtSportBund and a facelift for the website!

Sporting highlights were headed by the ladies’ emphatic win of the first award sharmainewomen’s Bundesliga title with a 100% record in all of their matches preceded by an indoor tournament win at the start of the season. Four players, Asmita, Franziska, Suzy and Sharmaine were given awards for consistently high individual performances and their promotion to the national team. Sharmaine deserves a special mention here, not only for keeping protocoll at the AGM, but also for being voted DCB player of the year.

award menThe men’s team had a mixed season including some frustratingly narrow defeats, not helped by one or two under-strength turnouts, finally finishing 5th in the DCB Regionalliga-West table. Clearly we have lots of room for improvement in 2016! On the other hand there were also some outstanding individual performances too, where the accolades go to vice-captain Tushar, who was rated NRW Most Valuable Player (MVP) according to the CricHQ stats, and Rana, who made it all the way into the national squad after a series of demanding regional trials.

One department which suffered a bit this year was the youth work, after a number of members left during our transition, though CICC still put together a team for a WDCV U15 tournament at St Georges school in June, and contributed some key players (Furqan and Kausar) to the victorious WDCV U17 squad at the DCB regions finals in Frankfurt. A high priority for 2016 is to get a regular youth training slot going again, so watch this space!

Kindersportfest in Köln on 20 June

The 6th Kölneksf-girlr Kindersportfest was held in the Müngersdorfer sports park on the campus of the Sportshochschule Köln. Children aged 4-10 from all over Cologne were invited to spend the day taking part in various multi-discipline competitions or just trying out something new out of the vast selection of sports on offer – including cricket!   We set up shop with practice nets and bowling machine next to our Tamburello colleagues from TPSK 1925 e.V.

A huge thank-you is due to the dynamic duo from the ladies team, Frauke and Franzi, ksf-catchwho kept dozens of kids busy all day long, and Heike and Dev who provided welcome reinforcement in the afternoon. We had lots of potential interest for a new junior youth training session perhaps starting this winter.
