Second Regional Liga match vs Deutsche Welle (DW) Venue – Bonn 14th April 2018

Again a good weather for a perfect cricket. CICC players were very confident to get a win.

CICC again won the toss and chose to bowl and put DW to bat.

First Innings

CICC skipper continued the strategy of opening the bowling with a mixture of spin and pace bowling attack of Kausar and Mansoor. DW Openers adopted cautious approach to the batting which sort of became the template of DW innings. Kausar was successful in building pressure on the openers with turn and flight. At the other end Mansoor provided the first breakthrough for CICC in his second over, when opener Waqas was caught behind by Koushik thanks to a big inside edge. Prakhar, who replaced Kausar, struggled to find his rhythm initially because of some discomfort caused by unevenness of the run-up area. The introduction of Kamran resulted in back to back blows for DW. Kamran removed No. 3 batsmen, who’s impatient slog was caught by Wahab. The very next ball, a quick fire bouncer from Kamran, was gloved straight to the slipper -¿ Chris (debut). Quick wickets by CICC and a change of the end fired up Prakhar to join the party with a wicket, down the leg side, caught effortlessly by keeper. This was a great start for CICC with 4 wickets down in 15overs for just 40 runs. The new batsmen at the crease, Tojo and Shipon rebuilt the innings again. They were quick to pounce on bad balls and defend/leave the good ones. Tojo, in particular, went on to score half century and was very well supported by Shipon. This batting gameplan was exactly what CICC was striving to achieve. Nag manages to break the 60+ run partnership by removing Shipon LBW. Tojo’s game plan results in DW scoring almost 200 runs despite being 4 down for 40 runs. The reintroduction of Kausar provided the wicket of Tojo thanks to some sharp stumping from Keeper. The rest of DW batsmen did not make much contri- bution to their score. In the end it took CICC 45+ overs to take 10 wickets.

CICC men start off Regionalliga 2016 with win in Cologne

Regionalliga 50-over match, 10.04.2016: CICC vs. Altendorf 09-ESSEN-2

In dry, eventually sunny weather CICC played their first Regionalliga match against the new Essen team Altendorf 09-ESSEN-2. The toss was won by CICC by default (because the guests turned up a bit late), and then chose to bat first.

1st Innings CICC Batting
Samar and Ricky opened the batting for CICC. Both openers fell for duck by some good accurate bowling. The skipper Tushar went 1 down needing to stabilize the innings, but unfortunately got a leading edge and was caught on 3. At that point CICC was under a bit of pressure and needed some good rebuilding partnerships – which they got too! Vikram and Anish on their debut scored 35 and 30 and increased our runrate with some nice big shots from Vikram and steady strike rotating by Anish. After Vikram’s dismissal, Furqan came into bat and showed confidence and experience by careful shot selection and managing the tail-enders, finally ending with 38 not-out after there was no support anymore on the other end. CICC scored 164 in 39.4 overs, which was a decent score on that pitch and something to for the bowlers to defend.

2nd Innings CICC Bowling & Fielding – Target 165
Assad (also on debut) started off his spell with Furqan from the other end. Bowling on the right line and length picking up early wickets put us on the right track. Assad 3/27 and Furqan 2/19. Both did their job well, until Waqas from Essen came in and showed his batting brilliance hitting big shots and starting take the match away from CICC. He and his partner were well set and chasing well to get Essen over the line. CICC needed to keep things tight and so spin was introduced on both ends with Samar and Tushar. At first struggling a bit for wickets, but then the breakthrough was finally there by Tushar, when Waqas swept it directly into the hands of Assad. This tilted the game back in CICC’s favour again, who finished it off bowling the Essen team out for 96 in 26 overs. Samar finished it off well by taking 3/17, landing CICC their first league match win of the 2016 Regionalliga.

A big factor was the brilliant fielding all round (not a single dropped catch) by the players, who kept up a strong motivation and eagerness to win. There was also exceptional fielding by Said, who was not only agile and quick but also had soft pair of hands every time a ball came into his way. Great keeping by Koushik (also on debut!) who took an outstanding catch behind the stumps of Samar. This was definitely a promising start for CICC and builds up the confidence for the matches to come.

Furqan – Man of the Match 38* and 2/19
Vikram – 35
Anish – 30
Assad – 3/27
Samar – 3/17
Tushar – 2/21

Great overall fielding and good team work to secure the first win of this year’s Regionalliga! Keep up the good work!

Cheers, Tushar

Regionalliga: narrow defeat to Welle

Captain’s Match Report – CICC Vs. Deutsche Welle, Regionalliga 2015

A pretty horrible day for cricket: we had interim spells of rain and it was very windy at a the ground making it quite a tiring experience. Not to mention the fact that we played with just 9 players!

First Innings (CICC batting):
Having won the toss, we decided to bat and Naeem opened with Tushar. Their job was to build a steady partnership and keep the score board ticking. They did a wonderful job rotating the strike and getting us to a respectable 45+ in the first 12-13 overs when Tushar fell. A few shots from Tushar were wonderful to watch, especially his flick for 4! I joined Naeem and continued the partnership, at which point Naeem also started opening up, dispatching a couple of good boundaries.

Close to the 21-22nd over I started to try to go after the bowling and was caught at gully. Naeem continued until the 35th over scoring 59: a very special innings considering the fact that we were missing nearly 4 of our in-form batsmen. The rest tried their best to stay at the wicket and nearly 25 extras from their side helped us get to a respectable total of 149 in close to 42 overs. Furqan held his nerve till the end with some sensible batting.

Second Innings (CICC fielding):
We started very positive with Rana on song, supported well by Furqan and then by Byju. First few wickets fell fast and we had them on the back-foot. Rana’s German Team experience was great to see as he bowled a wonderful first spell. Byju also bowled well, and his wicket was special when Naeem took a brilliant running catch. The best of the season I feel.

After that Tushar, Matt and Kausar continued. They bowled very well to keep the score down. Unfortunately we failed the pick the crucial wicket of Kausar, who played well and took the win from us.

Naeem’s half century – well planned, well played! I believe if he had more support his score would have been bigger!
Bowling – Rana with 2 wickets, but also Byju, Matt, Furqan, Tushar and Kausar. A very disciplined attack. We must improve on our extras though.
Fielding – Absolutely brilliant. With 9 fielders to work with, it was difficult to set an attacking field. Having said that I feel all of us were on red bull or some other energy drink :D cause they was some beautiful dives, stops and saves! I would like to see the same commitment every game we play. It is an achievement that they took 35 overs to get there. Good to have Vijay behind the stumps again!

All in all a good match. If had we played a full team, I am 100% sure it was winnable. But it is what it is. Congratulations to the team. a brilliant effort on a tough day.

Sir Pochont
