CICC men’s indoor tournament 2017

On Saturday, the end of the winter season and start of the summer season was celebrated by a 4-way, 6-overs per innings indoor tournament hosted by Cologne International Cricket Club. The tournament started with a game between the two teams provided by CICC. After only a couple of overs, CICC 1 captain Ritvik rued his decision to bowl first. Opening batsmen from CICC 2, Nag and Tushar, provided a solid start for their team (partnership of 40 odd runs) by rotating thestrike well and taking
advantage of some loose bowling. The batting team CICC 2 set up a good target of 48 runs and defended it pretty well by taking wickets at regular intervals, Tushar being the pick of bowlers with 3 wickets. This performance was topped by the Rheinland Riders, who kept the CICC 2 batsmen at bay with the help of some accurate bowling from Nagendra, Bilal and the rest. The score of 23 set by CICC 2 was chased in under 2 overs, where they were assisted by some extras from the bowlers.
The third game was played by the two away teams: Cologne Challengers and Rheinland Riders. Riders dominated this game as well, and set a humongous target of 65 runs for the Challengers. Good batting performances were seen form Vikram and Kausar. Although the target was huge, Challengers gave a pretty good fight and ended up at 56 runs. They continued their good performance while batting first in their next game against CICC 1, and scored 66 in the first innings. CICC displayed slightly better batting performance and took the game to the last over, needing 26 runs in it and unfortunately losing the game. But they followed this performance up with a strong bowling display against the Rhineland Riders, restricting them to a total of 42 in the fifth game, and winning the game with three balls to spare.
The last game was to determine the would-be finalists: Challengers or CICC 2. Challengers continued with their strong batting performance and put a big target of 66 runs for CICC 2 to chase; however, CICC 2 was up to the task, and Naeem took the game to the last overs by hitting a few sixes. However due to some miscounting on the umpires part and bad running between the wickets, CICC 2 gave the game away; thence leaving the Challengers and Riders as contenders for the trophy. Unfortunately, because of some miscalculations from the hosts, the time for a final match was not there and the trophy was awarded to Riders on account of their higher run rate. Vikram (Riders) was declared best batsman for his runs tally of 44 in three matches, whereas Chakri (Challengers) got the trophy for best bowler for his 5 wickets. All in all, it was the good end to the indoor season, and we hope to repeat it next year. Looking forward to the outdoor season!
