Arriving at the Hall around 13:00 the open school day had just finished so we could enter without any hindrances.

After sorting out a few seating arrangements on the landing, getting the teams ready and making sure we were to

play to the same rules, checking that the scorers were informed the visitors won the toss and elected to bat.

So we were 8 a side, 25 Over’s were agreed on, Jack (10 runs) and Daniel (13runs) opened the batting and

eventually made 56 runs with all the over’s.

Not forgetting we had a very mixed team age wise, Ryan, Daniel, Arne, Sam, Gaetan, Simon, Naman and Liam,

then proceeded to chase the runs down. Each batting pair got 5 over’s to bat and if you were out they lost 5 runs.

Nearly everybody got a chance to bowl. In the end CICC managed to get 24 runs, after losing quite a few -5’s near the end.

There were some great shots and some not so great, fielding from young Simon was fantastic, and if he keeps up his enthusiasm

he will become a great cricketer.

The general excitement and nervousness from all the players could be felt and it was great to see two sides playing indoor cricket.

I umpired the first innings and swopped with one of their dads in the second innings.
All was good natured and friendly and at the end of the day cricket won again.
The Bonn International School thanked us and suggested that we repeat this early next year again.
After a quick clean up and good by's I was happy to get home for my first cold beer.

Thanks again to all that helped, Paul,Bob,Wayne,Manoj,Tushar,Ritvik and Gaetan.

Yours truly

Andrew Schou (Fixture sec.)

Friendly match against the Deutsche Welle PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, 10 July 2011 12:16

After winning the toss Deutsche Welle decided to bowl and the ASV were bolwed out for a mere 88 runs, but as the saying goes the game is not over until the big lady sings and ASV did not give up and fought hard bowling and fielding the Welle out for 77. Captain Andrew Filby not out on 19 but ran out of partners. Niranjan got man of the match with 4-16 and caught a great ball out on the boundary. Niranjan being Germany's only one armed cricketer plays and inspires all that see him bowl, bat or field.

Bonn, 23rd June: Friendly Deutsche Welle CC vs ASV

  • ASV Köln 88 all out
  • DWCC 77 all out
  • ASV win by 11 runs

Christian Hein 29
Andrew Filby 19*
Naranjan 4-16

M+V Cricket Cup 2011 PDF Print E-mail

M+V Cricket Cup 2011

Well it was a great day.
Maier & Vidorno and ASV Köln hosted the second M+V Cricket Cup in Köln Müngersdorf as part of the Kölner Indienwoche. The indian food was great again, as was the whole atmosphere. The fundraising tombola for two social projects in India was a success as well. More than 1000 Euros could be handed over. Thanks to all the sponsors who made all this possible.

The day started off with a kids match between St. George's School Cologne and ASV Köln.
In the main tournament the four participating teams were „Indian Dare Devils“, „ASV Köln“, „Düsseldorf Blackcaps“ and last not least the „Uniworld Tigers“. The Dare Devils and the Uniworld Tigers were flown in from India especially for this event. They really enjoyed their stay.
In the breaks there was some nice entertainment for the spectators like cricket training with the players or "laughing yoga".

Just a few words about the cricket games as well.
First off the kids match - It was a very close end to the match thanks to some tight bowling from Ryan and Sevi, but St. George's just about limped across the line. But the tight finish meant excitement for all the players.
The adults - We were drawn against the Düsseldorf Blackcaps... They batted first and at one stage we were going to be chasing a stupid total. Then came Niranjan, supported by Tushar and wickets fell as did the run-rate. However, we had to chase 118 of 10 overs..! G-man, Wayne and Ricky kept their heads and we ended up getting 96 for 5 - a more than respectable figure (we could only get 72 against them in the last 50-over match!)

Overall, it was a great day, with many helping out in different ways. Thanks to all for helping out with the pitch, the ladies for advertising and supporting, to those umpiring and to Paul G (who stayed all day in his whites but did not get a chance to get on the field).

ASV U17 and U15 are NRWCU vice champions for 2011 PDF Print E-mail

After a long and gruelling day of high standard cricket the kids did so well to get second place in both categories. 3 of our U15 players helped fill up our U17 team and did so in style, all taking wickets and batted well. Both lost to two very good opposition teams. Each game was only 2 x 6 overs where all had to bowl one over. Final statistics and score sheets later. Check the NRWCU website for details. www.nrwcu.de

Better luck next time and keep on cricketing.
